There are various kinds of eating disorders. There is anorexia and bulimia, eating disorders that are brought about by one’s desire to lose weight. With anorexia, a person feels as though the littlest amount of food would make him or her fat; thus, a person tends to eat less than is necessary to sustain the bodyweight. Bulimia, on the other hand, refers to excessive and quick eating, and then a person would induce himself to vomit or take laxatives to get rid of the food just taken. Some people resort to these because these are the only methods they believe could be the solution as to how to stop compulsive eating.
There are other types of eating disorders like binge eating, but there is a new type of eating disorder called emotional eating. This type of eating disorder is where food becomes a distraction from various events in a person’s life. People experience emotional discomfort would focus their attention on food instead of on the things they would rather not think about. There are various signs to detect whether a person suffers from emotional eating disorders. When you see someone close to you displaying these signs, you should know that it’s time to show them how to stop compulsive eating:
1. A person becomes obsessed about food.
2. A person starts relying on food as his primary way of soothing or appeasing his troubled self.
3. A person forgets about the difference between eating and entertainment. Apparently, food becomes the number one form of entertainment and distraction for him.
4. A person with this disorder would describe his craving for food as food addiction, something that he doesn’t know to curb or stop.
Eating disorders, whether emotional or caused by the need to lose weight, should raise warning signals in each of use. If you think you’re eating habits are becoming way out of line, take heed. Rather than give in to your cravings, understand what’s wrong. Acknowledge the fact that something may be amiss and that you should learn how to stop eating improperly. It’s never too late to make changes. If you love yourself and your loved ones, you would do something about your problem.
